John O'Connor has been appointed managing director of Barclays Bank Ireland.
Mr O'Connor has over 20 years experience of commercial banking and structured finance in both the international and domestic markets.
In his new role, John will be responsible for building Barclays Bank Ireland’s strategy in Ireland.
Having initially spent a number of years in London working for Union Bank of Switzerland and MeesPierson, John’s banking career then took him to New York for 11 years, where his roles included head of Global Leveraged Finance for Fortis Bank. He returned to Ireland in 2004 as head of Acquisition Finance and as a member of the executive at Bank of Ireland.
Commenting on the appointment, Mr Donal Roche, chairman, Barclays Bank Ireland said: "John has a very strong track record of commercial success and strategy development and we are delighted to have appointed him to Barclays. He has shown throughout his impressive career that he can successfully build structured and commercial finance businesses in the US and UK/European markets."
