Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale has admitted he has struck a 'verbal agreement' with Lazio for Olivier Dacourt.
Ridsdale is believed to have met Lazio owner Sergio Cragnotti in Rome on Tuesday evening.
After the meeting, the Italian giants are understood to have bid £16m (€25m) for the France international.
Ridsdale, however, laughed at suggestions that Harry Kewell is going to Roma.
Regarding Dacourt, Ridsdale told Leeds' website that no deal has been agreed between the two clubs.
"We have received a verbal offer for Olivier from Lazio and we are now waiting for that to be followed up in writing," he said.
"If that offer is of a magnitude that I feel is appropriate then I will put it to the board, speak to the manager and then speak with Olivier and his agent."
Kewell attended Liverpool's Champions League victory over AS Roma, in the company of Italian agent Giovanni Branchini. The Australian star's presence sparked a frenzy of speculation, suggesting he was being lined up for a summer move to Serie A.
But Ridsdale said: "Giovanni Branchini is in fact a European marketing rights agent for Harry Kewell and that meeting was purely innocent.
"He represents him in Europe, they are friends and there is no reason why they should not meet up when he is in the country.
"I have had no approach whatsoever about Harry and therefore I am not worried."
