‘Argos goods dearer in Ireland than in Britain'

Argos customers in Ireland are reportedly paying up to 30% more for goods than customers of the discount retail chain in Britain.

Argos customers in Ireland are reportedly paying up to 30% more for goods than customers of the discount retail chain in Britain.

Reports this morning said a price comparison between Argos stores in Ireland and Britain found significant differences in the price of several products.

The survey, carried out by the European Consumer Centre in Dublin, found that an espresso maker was almost €10 cheaper in Britain, a 58-piece cutlery set was more than €8 cheaper and a food processor was cheaper by more than €6.

Argos reportedly defended the differential by claiming that "transportation and distribution" costs had led to the higher prices in Ireland.
