O'Neill mulling vital options

Eoghan O’Neill will bide his time before making a decision on whether to let Vital Equine make a quick reappearance at the Curragh next Sunday.

The Danetime colt ran out a half-length winner of The Sportsman Newspaper Champagne Stakes at York on Saturday to maintain his unbeaten run of three races.

Vital Equine has a number of entries including the Laing O’Rourke National Stakes in Ireland and O’Neill will not be hurried into a decision on which race to tackle.

“He’s fine this morning, he seems to have come out of it well,” said the Newark handler.

“Everything is under consideration for him now, we will just see how he freshens up over the next couple of days before we make a decision.

“The National could possibly come a bit quick for him but he’s a tough horse and I’m sure he will recover – he won’t go if we’re not happy with him.

“We’ve got plenty of options with him as he’s entered in the Dewhurst Stakes, the Racing Post Trophy and the Grand Criterium at Longchamp could even be a possibility.”

Following his triumph over Eagle Mountain, Vital Equine is now as low as 20-1 with Ladbrokes and Coral for next year’s Stan James 2000 Guineas.
