A new court date was set today for a couple accused of causing brain damage in their two-month-old son.
Medical student Imran Meer, aged 26, and Parveen Meer, aged 21 appeared before Judge William Scally at the Dublin District Court.
Their case will now be heard in Kilmainham District Court at 10.30am on September 16.
The couple’s two-month-old baby, Assad, was allegedly attacked on November 20, 2002 and suffered brain damage.
Mr Meer, who is a fourth year medical student at the Royal College of Surgeons, is charged with assault, causing serious harm, to his son under Section 4 of the fatal Offences Act 1997.
Both he and his wife are also charged with child neglect under the Children’s Act 2001.
The couple were granted bail in the High Court yesterday but were returned to Cloverhill prison in Dublin where they will remain until it is paid.
They have been ordered to remain in Lucan and report regularly to gardaí once their bail comes into effect.
Mr Meer wore a fleece top and cream slacks and sat close to his wife in the court.
His wife wore a blue denim jacket, a multi-coloured skirt and had a burkha around her head.
Judge Scally ordered no photographs be taken of the couple when they left court.
