Bar staff exempt form new noise regulations

Workers at sports venues and bars are to be exempt from new noise restrictions which are expected to be rubberstamped by the European Parliament today.

Workers at sports venues and bars are to be exempt from new noise restrictions which are expected to be rubberstamped by the European Parliament today.

Supporters of the move said it would effectively cut permitted noise levels in other work places by about 50%.

The legislation will set 87 decibels as the highest level of noise allowed - anything above that and workers will have to wear ear protection.

The plan follows weeks of wrangling with fears that any further reduction in levels would have an economic fall-out and lead to many businesses going to the wall.
