Galway hurling boss Noel Lane is facing stiff competition to hold onto his position from Athenry 's Pat Nally.
It is believed that Galway chiefs are making inroads to installing Nally as Lane's successor following another summer of discontent in Galway.
The Tribesmen were beaten by Clare in the All-Ireland quarter-final and see the three-time All-Ireland club championship winning manager as the perfect tonic.
A source confirmed: "The speculation around here at the moment is that they're going to move for Nally."
