Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones helped drive US concert ticket sales to a record £1.3bn (€2bn) last year.
Former Beatle McCartney, who charged up to £155 (€238) a ticket, was the highest grosser with £64m (€98.2m).
The Rolling Stones raked in £55m (€84.5m) after fans paid as much as £220 (€338) to see them live.
Cher's tour - which she said would be her last - was in third place, at £46m (€70.6m), followed by the Billy Joel and Elton John concerts, which grossed £40m (€61.4m).
Other acts in the top 10 included Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Aerosmith, Neil Diamond and The Eagles.
It is the fourth straight year concert receipts reached record levels in America.
"We had some very big marquee names out on tour this year," said Gary Bongiovanni from concert trade publication Pollstar.
"Paul McCartney has not worked in a long time, and the Rolling Stones only come out every couple of years."
But he said the number of ageing bands was a problem.
"The acts that are at the top have got to be reaching the end of their touring life.
"Where the next generation of headlining acts is going to come from is anybody's guess."
