Materazzi agrees new deal

Marco Materazzi has signed a new four-year contract at Inter Milan.

Marco Materazzi has signed a new four-year contract at Inter Milan.

The 32-year-old Italy defender’s new deal adds an extra year to his previous contract, as well as improved terms.

Materazzi – formerly of Everton – will have a new team-mate after Inter signed France international Patrick Vieira from Juventus yesterday.

The pair are set to meet for the first time since the World Cup final, in which Materazzi was at the centre of the sending-off of Vieira’s team-mate, Zinedine Zidane.

Frenchman Vieira – who also has a four-year contract – insists he holds no grudge towards his new team-mate.

“There won’t be any problems with him,” said Vieira. “July 9 is a long time ago and I will pay him my compliments.

“We French are still a little shocked, but in Italy, you need to talk a bit more about the World Cup win rather than insisting on the Zidane headbutt.”
