Lenny Lungo’s stable faces a virtual shutdown for the next fortnight after a viral problem struck the yard, it emerged today.
The Carrutherstown trainer – who did not have a runner anywhere yesterday - feared the worst when The Bajan Bandit was found to have a dirty nose after he had been pulled up at Wetherby eight days ago, and he said: “I suppose it is impossible not to pick up bugs at race meetings and we will just have to lie low for a while.
“It is viral problem which is very infectious and the only good thing is that a lot of our horses seem to be infected now and that at least means that we will hopefully get it all out of the way in one go rather than have it spread out over a long period.”
He continued: ”We will scope everything we think might be able to run a couple of days before and see how they are but we certainly won’t be rushing things that is for sure.
“It was a very frustrating that there were three northern meetings yesterday and we couldn’t have a runner, but these things happen and to be fair we have had a great season so far and a fantastic run of winners – and it has been very pleasing that many of those have been with horses which we bought unbroken.”
“I would think it will be all systems go again in two weeks and we will just have to be patient.”
