Despite only starting a handful of games for Munster, young scrumhalf Conor Murray has been earning rave reviews for his displays for the Reds.
Veteran flanker David Wallace was full of praise for the Garryowen number nine who has again been named in Munster’s starting line-up for tomorrow’s crunch Amlin Challenge Cup semi-final against Harlequins.
“I think when he’s got his chances, he’s played really well. He’s looked really comfortable on the ball,” said Wallace on Murray’s form.
“He looks he’s been there for 10 years. He’s got no fear of bossing a pack that has far more experience than he has.
“He made at least one try-saving tackle against the Ospreys last week, and his workrate was excellent. He hasn’t played a lot of games for us, but in the games he has; he’s been pure quality.
“He has his own game and his own style. He’s a big guy who can make breaks and get through tackles.”
Munster missed out on the knockout stages of the Heineken Cup for the first time in 13 seasons after losing 32-16 to Toulon during the group stages of this season’s tournament, but Wallace insist the port-mortems of that defeat have finished and his side are firmly fixed on winning Europe’s second tier competition.
“We did our mourning back in January with the Heineken Cup, and I think we’ve shown that we’ve got over that hump and we’re back to winning ways,” said Wallace.
“This is a new competition now and we really want to go on now and try and win it. Any Heineken Cup hangover is definitely gone and this is a chance of European silverware and it’s something that we have to be fully focused on.”
