One dead in shooting on US college campus

One person is dead and a community college campus in North Carolina is in lockdown as authorities search for a man with a gun.

Kim Best, spokeswoman for the city of Goldsboro, says there is one victim in the campus shooting at Wayne County Community College in Goldsboro.

She says that person is dead but did not give any other details.

Ms Best said the shooter is not in custody. She would not say whether the gunman is still on campus.

Wayne County assistant operations manager Daniel Wiggins says 911 received a call at about 8am of an active gunman on campus.

Authorities are searching the area for a white male, about 5 ft 11 tall with a goatee and a tattoo over his eye.

Mr Wiggins said he does not know what type of firearm is involved.
