Alistair Cragg and David Gillick continued their build-up to next month's World Championships at the IAAF Golden League meeting in Rome tonight but the Irish duo both failed to make an impression in the Olympic Stadium.
Cragg was one of four athletes who failed to finish the 5000 metres race which was won by Ethiopia's Sileshi Sihine in 13 minutes, 01.46 seconds.
Gillick finished eighth of nine athletes in a top-quality 400m, clocking a disappointing 45.81 seconds. It was an American one-two with LaShawn Merritt hitting the line in 44.44, his compatriot Angelo Taylor in second (44.55) and Sweden's Johan Wissman an impressive third (45.12).
