A man was in a critical condition in hospital today after a suspected hit and run incident.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses after the victim was found with serious injuries at Rocks Road, Kingscourt, Co Cavan on Monday morning.

The man, 29, was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda where he remains in a critical condition.

Detectives believe the man had been walking home alone at the time of the incident. He was found at 3.20am.

A garda spokesman said officers were appealing for any witnesses or anybody who may have useful information to contact them.

“The appeal is also directed at local garages or persons in the motor trade who have been asked to repair damage to a vehicle in the last three days and may suspect a link to this incident,” he added.
