Outgoing TDs' payments top €13m

The estimated bill for outgoing TDs' pension lump sums and termination payments, for TDs in the last Dáil, comes to more than €13m, according to figures compiled for today's Irish Times.

The estimated bill for outgoing TDs' pension lump sums and termination payments, for TDs in the last Dáil, comes to more than €13m, according to figures compiled for today's Irish Times.

The €13m figure excludes outgoing Ministers' severance payments.

The two highest pension recipients are Taoiseach Brian Cowen and former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern who will receive about €350,000 in the year following their retirement once their ministerial pensions are taken into account.

Mr Cowern and Mr Ahern will also also receive about €165,000 annually once all lump sum, termination payments have been completed.
