The Government has failed to do enough to help the families of missing people in Ireland, according to the Missing in Ireland Support Service.
Its members have organised a cycle this weekend to raise awareness on the issue.
Funding for the missing persons helpline was withdrawn last year despite the fact that by the end of this year there will be more than four thousand missing people reports received by gardaí.
Chairperson of MISS Dermot Brown said more resources are needed urgently
"The government is doing nothing,” he said.
“The helpline was withdrawn and it hasn't been replaced with anything. Again we'd appeal to Mr McDowell. We've sent him in a business plan and hopefully he'll have a look and respond to it. If Mr McDowell had some of the experiences our families had he might appreciate it a little bit better."
