Paul Robinson has hit out at Leeds chairman Professor John McKenzie following the club’s decision to accept a bid of around £3m (€4.4m) from Aston Villa for the England goalkeeper.
McKenzie claimed the fee was only agreed after it became clear Robinson had set his heart on quitting Leeds.
However, Robinson told The Sun: “The previous chairman of Leeds, Peter Ridsdale, contacted my agents, the SEM Group, just before he left the club suggesting I should be signing a longer, improved contract which I was more than happy to do.
“After Prof McKenzie took over, my agents simply asked if that offer was still in place and were told it was not.
“So suggestions that I demanded a new contract are totally untrue.
“Also, as I had not asked for a new contract, I was not too disappointed that I was not being given one.
“This chairman has been running Leeds United for a few months, but I have never even met him or discussed my future with him.
“He is just trying to make himself look popular at my expense, and I feel disgusted by the way he is treating me and trying to turn supporters against me. I feel used.”
Professor McKenzie had said: “Only when Doug Ellis, the chairman of Aston Villa, told me that Paul was keen to join them and had informally agreed personal terms did I enter into detailed negotiations.”
However, Robinson countered: “Regarding Aston Villa, I have not been there, personal terms have not been agreed and the formal discussions that have taken place have been between the two chairmen without my knowledge.”
