Mixed outlook in latest Dublin Economic Monitor

The latest Dublin Economic Monitor shows unemployment is down and jobs growth is strong, with over 600,000 Dublin residents now employed in the city.

However, residential rents have reached new peaks this year and the city faces a challenge over housing.

Lorcan Blake, Economist with DKM Economic Consultants, said that there is uncertainty over the potential fall-out from Brexit.

"There is an opportunity for jobs to come to Dublin," he said.

"We are well-placed in terms of our English language, the corporate tax rate, and our legal system.

"But personal tax rates are very high in Ireland, so it's not entirely clear if these jobs will necessarily come to Dublin.

"And if they do come to Dublin it will put even further pressure on the housing market, as we have issues in terms of finding accommodation for the existing population."
