President praises 'impressive' trawler operation

President Michael D. Higgins has paid tribute to the people of Union Hall in West Cork, for their huge voluntary effort during the search for the crew of the sunken trawler, the 'Tit Bonhomme'.

President Michael D. Higgins has paid tribute to the people of Union Hall in West Cork, for their huge voluntary effort during the search for the crew of the sunken trawler, the 'Tit Bonhomme'.

Skipper Michael Hayes and four members of his crew died when the trawler struck rocks and sank in heavy seas in January.

Over the following four weeks, all five bodies were located in the sea following a huge search effort.

President Higgins has said the operation was "hugely impressive".
