It has been reported that taxpayers are facing the loss of hundreds of millions of euro through the National Asset Management Agency (Nama).
The Government originally claimed the property loans agency would make a profit in the region of €4.8bn.
The Irish Times has reported however that only one in five of the loans are generating any income.
In the worst case scenario, Nama could end up losing hundreds of millions of euro, which would require the five participating banks to pay further fees
