Crouch goal tally increases

Peter Crouch has been credited with Liverpool’s second goal in the 2-0 win over Newcastle on St Stephen's Day last year.

The 25-year-old’s header after 43 minutes at Anfield was goal-bound and went over the line, despite Shay Given’s save on to the post.

Magpies goalkeeper Given was initially credited with an own goal – but the Premier League dubious goals panel have now given the strike to England international Crouch.

It takes Crouch’s tally for the season to 10, after he initially struggled to break his duck following a summer move from Southampton. He also netted in the Club World Championship in Japan.

The £7m signing also scored for England in the recent friendly against Uruguay at Anfield, his first strike at international level.

Meanwhile, Carlos Bocanegra has been credited with an own goal during Fulham’s defeat to Manchester United in February – after Park Ji-Sung was initially given the goal.

Leon Osman’s strike for Everton against Portsmouth was chalked off, Pompey’s Andrew O’Brien judged to have accounted for the winner at Fratton Park on January 14.

Middlesbrough’s second goal against West Brom on February 26 was been confirmed as an own goal by Ronnie Wallwork rather than a Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink goal.
