A study by the Government’s National Advisory Committee on Drugs and the North’s Drug and Alcohol Information and Research Unit is reportedly set to contradict last week’s United Nations report claiming Irish youngsters were among the highest amphetamine users in the world.

The study of drug use in Ireland is expected to reveal that 4% of people in the Republic and 6% in the North have tried ecstasy at least once.

Last week’s UN report claimed Irish people aged between 18 and 20 were the second-highest users of ecstasy in the world, after Australia.
