In a policy shift, Israel arrested more than 50 Islamic Jihad militants in the West Bank overnight, following a series of attacks by the group against Israeli targets, military sources said.
Israeli policy since a February truce had been to arrest only those suspected of planning terror attacks. But because Islamic Jihad in recent weeks has stepped up its attacks on Israeli targets, those arrested overnight weren’t only so-called ticking bombs, the sources said.
A fatal shooting in the West Bank yesterday was the third Islamic Jihad attack in as many days.
