A meeting of the Seanad Committee on Members Interests - to consider a new inquiry into Ivor Callely's expenses - has been adjourned for a number of hours.

A sub-committee of the Fianna Fáil national executive is still meeting to decide on how to proceed with a seperate investigation into the matter.

It comes as pressure continues to mount on the embattled Senator over the submission of questionable mobile phone claims.

Today's meetings are taking place amid the growing outcry over Ivor Callely's latest expenses scandal concerning mobile phone claims of almost €3,000 which he has acknowledged should not have been made.

The Seanad Committee - which imposed a 20-day suspension on the Senator last month for unjustifiable mileage expenses - is deciding whether to carry out a new inquiry.

It has adjourned its meeting for a number of hours to allow time for Senators who were abroad to return to Leinster House.
