Lynch believes free GP care to under 6s will cost more than Govt target

Minister of State at the Department of Health Kathleen Lynch has said the cost of delivering free GP care to under 6s and over 70s was always going to be higher than the €37m the Government had hoped for.

The Irish Medical Organisation yesterday announced it has reached a deal with the Department of Health and the HSE to provide the service.

The cost of the scheme - which will be available from mid July - is expected to amount to around €70m for a full year, almost twice the figure the Government had initially put on it.
