A new born baby girl joined her mother, Lisa Carroll, at Mountjoy prison last night.

The mother of two from Dorset Street, in Dublin, became one of 10 anti-bin tax protestors jailed after refusing to back down in their defiance of a High Court order.

The child, who's being breastfed at the moment, will remain with her mother during night-time hours and will return home in the morning to spend the day with her father.

Ms Carroll has been jailed for only one week because of maternal commitments while nine others were imprisoned for a fortnight.

Mountjoy Governor, John Lonergan, says the prison has extensive facilities to cater for the little girl.

Over 300 people turned out in support of the campaigners at the prison last night.

Justice Mella Carroll warned the ten that they face a return to jail if they persist with the action upon release.
