90 jobs are to go at the Dawn Meats plant in Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo in the latest round of job lay-offs following the introduction of the Cattle Destruction Scheme. 40 of the posts are permanent positions and the remaining 50 are contracts with overseas workers that are not being renewed.
The jobs are in the factory's packing and boning sectors.
15 of the workers are to be offered alternative employment at a sister plant seven miles away in Ballaghadreen.
The redundancies will not come into effect until unions and management agree terms.
