Andre Fabre appears in a confident mood ahead of the Sagitta 1000 Guineas at Newmarket next month.
The French trainer is set to saddle the Khalid Abdullah-owned Intercontinental in the fillies’ Classic and told the Racing Post he “wouldn’t want to swap her”.
The Danehill filly, a full-sister to Banks Hill, met with defeat just once as a juvenile when third to Hold That Tiger in the Grand Criterium at Longchamp.
And she showed she her current well-being with a comfortable success at Maisons-Laffitte last week.
“I know Six Perfections has a better record, but we took on the colts last year. I trust my filly and I think she’s a Guineas type,” Fabre said.
“She had an easy race last week and has come out of it well. I like her conformation and I like her pedigree.
“For me, I have always favoured Newmarket and I wouldn’t want to swap her.”
However, Intercontinental has yet to tackle the mile of the Guineas and Fabre said: “She’s a bit different to her sister in that she’s more powerful and I could say she’s more of a sprinter.
“Because of that, the distance is a bit of a worry, but I favour Newmarket over Longchamp as, although Newmarket has an uphill finish, at Longchamp the first part of a mile race is uphill and in total they have to go uphill twice.”
Intercontinental missed the Shadwell Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes at the Craven meeting due to the outbreak of equine flu in Newmarket but the trainer said: “Of course, flu is a concern but I would hope by then it would be over.
“We will try to find as safe a journey as possible and you can assume she will run in the Guineas.”
