The Sun and The News of the World newspapers today put up a joint reward of £150,000 for anyone who solves the disappearance of missing 10-year-olds Jessica Chapman and Holly Wells.
The cash will go to anyone who provides information that solves the mystery disappearance of the two 10-year-olds.
Cambridgeshire Police, who are heading the hunt for the girls, welcomed the move.
Detective Superintendent David Hankins said: “Cambridgeshire Police would like to thank the newspapers involved for their support in putting up this reward.
“We hope this would prompt someone to come forward with information regarding Jessica and Holly.”
The school friends have been missing from their homes in Soham, Cambridgeshire, since Sunday evening. A huge police search has failed to find any trace of them.
Details of the reward will be on the front page of The Sun tomorrow and in the News of the World on Sunday.
Additional information will be available on The Sun and News of The World web sites.
David Yelland, editor of The Sun, said: “The Sun newspaper reaches 10 million people every day.
“Surely somebody, somewhere must know something about the disappearance of Jessica and Holly.
“We appeal to this person to contact the police.
“We will be printing a poster in the newspaper this evening which means 3.8 million posters will be in circulation. In addition we will be printing larger posters for distribution in Cambridgeshire.”
A News of the World spokeswoman said: “There is no subject closer to the hearts of our readers than the safety of Britain’s children.
“We pray that this reward will prompt the one piece of information that will lead to Holly and Jessica’s safe reunion with their parents.”
