Tolerance of mental illness declining in Irish workplaces

Irish workplaces are less tolerant of mental health problems than they were 10 years ago, according to a survey commissioned by the support group Aware.

Irish workplaces are less tolerant of mental health problems than they were 10 years ago, according to a survey commissioned by the support group Aware.

The agency said 87% of respondents who suffered from depression hid their illness from their employer, compared to just 52% in 1995.

Just 26% of respondents rated their employer as being understanding of mental illness, compared to 56% 10 years ago.

The survey results were published today to coincide with the beginning of Depression Awareness Week.
