Frasier star John Mahoney is planning to move to Ireland.

He says he fell in love with the country last year, while filming Eugene O'Neill's Long Day's Journey Into Night.

He plays Martin Crane in the US sitcom.

"When I'm through with the show I'm going to work a lot less and spend a lot more time over there," he told Teletext.

"The Irish could read the telephone book and make it sound like poetry."

John, who currently lives in Chicago, says the last season of Frasier has made him restless.

Despite the show's huge pay, he says he's longing to do more theatre work.

"There's something exciting about the language of a play combined with the energy that comes off the audience."
