Dublin is facing a rat epidemic with an estimated 2 million set to hit the streets.

There are now twice as many rats in the city as there are humans.

Increased waste, combined with a string of milder than normal winters have led to the dramatic increase with Dublin Corporation confirming that the number of sightings of the vermin have rocketed in the past year.

Even by conservative estimations there are two rats for every person in Dublin so you are rarely more than a few feet away from one of the vermin.

The average rat is sexually active three months after being born and gives birth to litters every eight months.

The Luas project will also rattle the animals' traditional home in the sewers and underground waterways, bringing even more above ground.
