Ricketts extends Spurs deal

Tottenham midfielder Rohan Ricketts has agreed a one-year contract extension with the north London club.

Tottenham midfielder Rohan Ricketts has agreed a one-year contract extension with the north London club.

Ricketts, 21 on Monday, joined Spurs from north London rivals Arsenal in July 2002 and has impressed this season, making 17 appearances and scoring twice. The year’s extension keeps him under contract at White Hart Lane until 2007.

He told the club’s official website www.spurs.co.uk: “I am happy to extend my stay at the club and I am grateful that the club have put faith in me.

“I have played a few games for the first team now and, hopefully, I can replay that faith.”

Meanwhile Paul Konchesky has extended his loan at Tottenham by a month - saving him from a “horrible” return to Charlton.

The left-back or midfielder, 22, has made it clear he wants to remain at White Hart Lane rather than resume duties for his parent club.

“It would be horrible to go back and I know for a fact I want to sign for Spurs,” he said.

Konchesky did not quite get his wish today but did stretch his month-by-month deal until January 16.

However, the player who has featured in 13 games for Tottenham only remains north of the river after Charlton steered clear of any major new injuries in Saturday’s goalless draw at Middlesborough.

Addicks boss Alan Curbishley had threatened to recall Konchesky if there were any additions to his side’s injury list, which includes seven first-team players.
