Fine Gael is calling on TV companies to make 90% of programming captioned by 2007.

At present almost one in every five Irish people have a difficulty with hearing.

RTE 1 currently caption 68% of their programmes while TG4 caption 50% of peak time programmes.

Fine Gael spokesperson on Communications Simon Coveney TD said today that TV3 is a notable offender in this area but it isn't the only one.

He is calling on Network 2 and TG4 to boost the number of captioned programmes available on their networks.
