The Irish rugby team is to have an audience with the Pope at the Vatican today.

The 66-member squad arrived in Italy yesterday and the national side is due to open its Six Nations campaign against Italy in Rome on Saturday.

Players from both sides of the religious divide have said they feel privileged to meet the Pontiff.
