Several hundred airport staff have stopped work in support of striking British Midland ground handling workers in the latest escalation of the four-week-old dispute over a decision to sell off the ground handling services at Dublin Airport.

Several hundred airport staff have stopped work in support of striking British Midland ground handling workers in the latest escalation of the four-week-old dispute over a decision to sell off the ground handling services at Dublin Airport.

Almost 300 Aer Rianta, Aer Lingus and service staff as well as airport porters are all taking part in the protest.

The dispute is over British Midland's decision to bring workers in from the UK to try to break the strike.

Airport authorities are trying to play down the impact that this demonstration will have on services out of the airport this afternoon.

However, it appears that at least some disruption will be caused for the travelling public.
