150 new prison spaces announced

Minister for Justice John O’Donoghue will today announce the creation of 150 new spaces for prisoners with the renovation of Cork Prison.

Minister for Justice John O’Donoghue will today announce the creation of 150 new spaces for prisoners with the renovation of Cork Prison.

The jail already houses 190 inmates. The new development will cost £35m and will take three years to complete.

There will also be space for about 40 juvenile offenders.

Since coming into office, Minister O’Donoghue has created more than 1,200 new prison spaces and 700 more are expected.
