Carr lawyers fight for her privacy

Lawyers for Maxine Carr tonight said they would “vigorously” fight any attempt to overturn a British High Court injunction banning media disclosures about her new life.

Lawyers for Maxine Carr tonight said they would “vigorously” fight any attempt to overturn a British High Court injunction banning media disclosures about her new life.

After Carr spoke to a Sunday newspaper legal experts said she may have jeopardised the continuation of the draconian court order which is backed by the UK Home Office and Probation Service.

But Carr’s representatives believe she cannot herself breach an injunction which was put in place to protect her.

They also said she had given no details of her whereabouts or new identity, which are protected by the injunction, when she spoke to the Mail on Sunday.

Her solicitor Roy James told PA News: “Despite the article printed in the Mail on Sunday yesterday no information was given by her describing her whereabouts or any details of a new identity.

“We regard the injunction to remain in force and any application to discharge it will be contested vigorously.”

UK Home Office officials were privately disappointed at Carr’s decision to go public but there has been no change in their position in terms of maintaining secrecy around her new life and providing her with protection.

Earlier this month, Carr’s legal team succeeded in tightening even further the injunction which regulates what the public can be told about her.

Lawyers for several newspapers may try to challenge the terms of the order this week.

Carr’s decision to speak to a newspaper also raised the question of whether she breached the licence agreement under which she was released from prison.
