Some progress is being reported in efforts to resolve the cabin crew row at Aer Lingus following the decision by members of IMPACT to call off their action on Friday.
Contacts are ongoing and it is hoped that enough progress will be made to ensure another trouble-free week at the airline. There is a threat to flights on Wednesday, but this is thought to be receding.
Meanwhile the employers group IBEC has expressed concern about the increasing number of pickets and disputes centred on Dublin Airport. IBEC says such rows are doing major damage to Ireland’s image and reputation abroad.
The group also says that despite recent deregulation of the industry, Aer Lingus remains a key link for most Irish passengers.
It is understood that at the negotiations, Aer Lingus has given a commitment not to penalise cabin crews over the dispute and does not intend pursuing any legal avenues for losses sustained.
This move is said to have improved the atmosphere in the talks. Contacts are continuing through the day.
