An investigation was under way today to discover how a man fell to his death after using connecting doors between two carriages of a Tube train, a British Transport Police spokesman said.

The man, who has not been identified but is believed to be in his late 30s, fell from a Central Line train which had just left Mile End station in east London at 3.10pm on Wednesday.

The train was travelling east through a tunnel section towards Stratford station.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: ‘‘At this time it is not clear why the man was using the connecting doors between the carriages.

‘‘Witnesses are still being interviewed by police.

‘‘However, it is known there are no suspicious circumstances.

‘‘We’re in the process of informing next of kin of the death.’’

The Health and Safety Executive and the coroner had been informed of the death, the spokesman said.
