Ronnie Biggs has arrived at Belmarsh Prison.
The Great Train Robber was driven into the grounds of the prison at Thameside, near Woolwich, in a white Prison Service van with blacked-out windows.
The van, flanked by four police cars, was greeted by around a dozen members of the public and a bank of photographers.
The convoy sped some 200 yards from the prison gates to the main entrance without stopping. Some well-wishers cheered as the convoy went past.
The fugitive earlier faced a brief hearing at West London Magistrates Court after surrendering to Scotland Yard detectives.
He was arrested after touching down at RAF Northolt in north west London in a private jet. He was arrested under warrant for being unlawfully at large.
