Only 2% of Irish women are aware that age is the single biggest risk factor in developing breast cancer.

Only 2% of Irish women are aware that age is the single biggest risk factor in developing breast cancer.

The Irish Cancer Society says three-quarters of all breast cancer cases diagnosed in 2005 were in women over the age of 50, while more than one-third were in women over 65.

However, it says research has found that most women think family history is the biggest single factor influencing breast cancer.
