ICSA repeats call for country-of-origin labelling

The Irish Cattle and Sheep-farmers Association (ICSA) has repeated its call for all meat products to be clearly labelled with their country of origin.

The Irish Cattle and Sheep-farmers Association (ICSA) has repeated its call for all meat products to be clearly labelled with their country of origin.

The association is discussing the matter at its annual general meeting in Co Meath today.

Irish farmers are currently facing growing competition from foreign meat imports, which are used widely in the catering industry without the knowledge of the consumer.

The ICSA said some of these imports would not undergo the same food safety controls as Irish meat and consumers were therefore entitled to know where their food comes from.
