Police in Co Down have rescued three women from a suspicious house fire in the Scrabo area of Newtownards.

The police were called to the scene on Trasnagh Drive at around 4am.

A 48-year-old woman and her two daughters in their 20s were inside the house at the time, but managed to get to the front door, where they were brought to safety by the police.

Three weeks ago, a gang of men smashed windows on the same house, but it is unclear if last night's fire was linked to that incident.

The PSNI did say they were treating the blaze as suspicious.

The woman who lives in the house has accused people with a grudge against her daughters of carrying out both attacks.
