The number of people killed in workplace accidents last year was down 30% on the previous year, according to figures released by the Health and Safety Authority today.

The number of people killed in workplace accidents last year was down 30% on the previous year, according to figures released by the Health and Safety Authority today.

The authority said 50 people died in work-related incidents in 2004, compared to 70 in 2003.

It said 16 of the deaths happened in the agriculture and fishing sectors, while 15 happened in the construction sector.

The HSA also said that men incurred twice as many injuries in the workplace as women, with 70% of injuries happening to workers in the 20-44 age group.
