Road safety groups all over the world have pledged to reduce road deaths by 50% over the next 10 years.

Road safety groups all over the world have pledged to reduce road deaths by 50% over the next 10 years.

The UN Decade of Action for Road Safety will be launched later today.

Each year, more than 1.3 million people worldwide are killed in crashes.

Communications officer with the Road Safety Authority Brian Farrell said one initiative to raise awareness will be a minute's silence which will be broadcast over radio stations around the country in the coming weeks.
