Planning permission has been sought in Co Louth for a twenty-three bedroom, four-star, eco-friendly hotel on the Battle of the Boyne site.

The application to Louth County Council by businessman Gavin Collins stated that the two-storey hotel on the northside of the Boyne will be designed "using ecological building practices".

It proposed using a wood pellet heating system and solar panels, and wanted the hotel to become part of the interactive heritage facilities in the area.

A viewing platform over the site of the Battle of the Boyne is also being proposed.
