Fianna Fáil hold the real power, says Michael Healy Rae

Fine Gael might be in Government, but its Fianna Fáil who currently hold the real power according to one of Kerry's best known TDs.

Michael Healy Rae has been giving his analysis on the performance of the new Government, which is almost a month old.

The Independent TD said the current minority political set up is very different to anything that has previously existed here.

He say the" arrogance" of the last Government is gone because Fine Gael now needs the support of both Fianna Fáil and certain Independents.

"They are a far more contrite Government now, because they know they're only there because of the will of Independents and the will of Fianna Fáil allowing them to be there," he said.

"They have to behave themselves. They have to be more down to earth…(Before,) they didn’t think the world existed outside of the Red Cow roundabout."
