Kidney questions Pearson's performance

Irish head coach Declan Kidney admitted he was “disgusted” with the penalty count at the end of Ireland’s 17-17 draw with France in Paris yesterday.

Dave Pearson whistled for six French penalties in the second half yesterday, awarding Ireland just one.

Over the course of the 80 minutes Ireland conceded eleven penalties while France were penalised on just four occasions.

While Kidney has not made an official complaint against Pearson and is focusing on preparing for the Scotland game, he hinted that the refereeing authorities should analyse the Englishman’s performance.

"We'll control what is within our control and hope to God that somebody who is in control on the other side will take a good look at that," Kidney told RTE.

“These games are hinged on small margins and there are enough small margins out there that are within our control for us to fix and be a better side the next time."

Ireland came agonisingly close to ending their twelve year run without a victory in Paris but a scoreless second half enabled France to claw their way back into the game.

While the likes of O’Connell, Heaslip and two-try scorers Tommy Bowe have voiced their disappointment and frustration at the result, Kidney admitted that his proud of his teams’ efforts.

"We did not come here to draw we came here to win and to represent the people of Ireland in the best way possible.

"That is why I am immensely proud of the boys. I think that we went at it hard but we could not get that win we were looking for."
