Father drowns retrieving children's ball

Gardaí in Cavan are investigating the death of a man who drowned today in a lake.

Gardaí in Cavan are investigating the death of a man who drowned today in a lake.

The 36-year-old died after he went into the Trinity Lake in Killykeen at 10am to retrieve a ball his children had been playing with.

Divers from the Lough Ree Sub Aqua Club recovered his body an hour later.

The man was camping with his family near the lake, which is around five miles from his home in Cavan town.

His body was taken to Cavan General Hospital for a post mortem examination.

Gardaí later identified the man as Ciaran Agnew from Highfield Road in Cavan Town.
